Dallas Trail System in the News

An article by Joe Simnacher in the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday, July 6th includes an interview with Michael Hellman of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and provides a nice overview of upcoming construction projects that will expand the Dallas Hike and Bike Trail System by another 20 miles.

Here are some highlights that we found interesting:

Groundbreaking for the Northaven Trail, which will provide the first east-west trail in North Dallas, is scheduled for later this month.

Construction on the expansion of the Katy Trail to Whiterock Lake will begin soon. According to the article, the Dallas City Council approved a contract for construction of a signature bridge across Mockingbird Lane that will be part of the Katy Trail extension.

Work is underway to expand the sidewalk at the Spring Valley and Coit intersection so that there will be direct, bikeable, connection between the top of the Cottonwood Trail and the Preston Ridge Trail in far North Dallas.
