Extension of the trail north of Valley View Park
Sugie Dotson of the Park and Recreation Dept. is the Project Manager for an extension of the trail north from it’s current terminus at Valley View Park. This project will add another three quarters of a mile along the creek and under Alpha Road, bringing the total length to over 8 miles. The new section will be 12 ft wide and includes bridges, scenic overlooks of White Rock Creek, and an elevated boardwalk. This project is already funded and work is estimated to begin in summer 2011. When completed, it will likely be the most scenic section of the entire trail. Ms. Dotson kindly provided us with a copy of the preliminary plans. Widening and upgrading between Forest Lane and Greenville Avenue
The section of the trail from Forest Lane south to Greenville Avenue will be completely redone. This will involve removing the old 8 feet wide trail and replacing it with a new 12 foot cement trail. This new section will look the same as the recently redone section between Forest Lane and LBJ.
This project is already funded and the design work is nearing completion. The Park and Recreation Department has said that the trail will remain open during construction. A temporary asphalt trail will be built alongside the construction areas. Work is estimated to begin in summer 2011.

WE need to keep the pressure on to rebuild the trail from Greenville all of the way to the Lake. This trail is the Crown Jewel of Dallas’ bike trails, and the deterioration of the condition must be corrected.
